Originally designed to be a safe, legal thermite alternative before I realised that thermite alternatives aren’t safe or legal and changed the formula, this mix of 50% KNO3, 30% 30-micron aluminium powder, 10% sulfur, 10% charcoal, and an extra 10% sugar creates an extremely bright burning powder that is impossible to look at directly. The interesting thing about it is that on camera, it doesn’t appear that bright at all. My theory is that the burning aluminium creates more UV light than it does regular light, which doesn’t look that bright to a camera, but it’s blindingly bright in person. It leaves no residue or molten metal when burned, and is kind of like a slow-burning flash powder.
